Fabulous Flirtatious Fabric Flower Tutorial

Here is my Fabulous Flirtatious Fabric Flower Tutorial! How's THAT for alliteration! HAHA Say that one Five times
This year I am not going to the Stampin' Up! convention for various reasons, but I do have lots of Downline and friends that are going! I wanted to let them know I was thinking of them and wishing them a WONDERFUL trip, so I made them each a little "treat". I used our new designer fabric Flirtatious(122335) and sewed these adorable little flower pins. They can wear them, or just add them to their bags or even their hats (I hear they are supposed to have a hat for one of the convention parties). They are so easy to make, even if you don't sew (and I don't sew!).
First I tore the fabric into approx 1 inch strips. The flowers turned out a bit better once I made them a little wider than 1", but you can play with the sizes. Then I used my machine to sew a large stitch all along one side of the fabric stitch. I also did some by hand, so if you don't have a machine, you can easily stitch them by hand.

Then you gather up the fabric by pulling gently on the thread.

Once you have done that, you can arrange the gathered fabric into a spiral shape

Then I sewed them together by hand. One you get the flower sewn together you can add a button to the center and sew it on. This does two things. It makes it prettier (lol) and it covers the messy center. Now if you are a REAL sewer, probably your center isn't messy, but mine was, so the buttons did a great job of covering it! Our buttons are just so colourful! They made me happy just looking at all of them!

Ta Da!! Aren't they cute!

To complete them, I created a tag using My Digital Studio and attached the pins to the tag. Nice packaging makes a difference and I really love using MDS for these kinds of projects!

I used a glue gun to stick the pins to the back of the flowers. I didn't take a photo of the back.

Hope you like them! Happy Stamping (or sewing!)

Super cute! Yet another reason to be disappointed I didn't go to convention :p
I love your flowers!! I want to make them too – how long were your one inch strips? thanks for sharing!
Hi Susan,
I used the Stampin’ Up! fabric, so the strips were the longest part of our fabric pieces – 27″. Have fun making them!
These fabric flowers are just wonderful…thanks for sharing!!!
